Katherine S., Ph.D., E.L.S.
Katherine received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from the University of Florida. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Baylor College of Medicine. She has a broad range of research experience. She began her career working on heavy metal phytoremediation, fusing proteomics with analytical chemistry. Her graduate studies focused on characterization of and drug development for prostate cancer targets. This exposed her to a diverse array of methodologies, including structural biology, pharmacology, cell biology, immunohistochemistry, and animal studies. Her current projects include both translational research as well as addressing basic science questions. She is involved in characterization of and drug development for several new cancer targets and studying the nature of ion sequestration interactions by binding proteins and ion channels. She has published extensively in a number of subfields including biochemistry, structural biology, medicinal chemistry, microbiology, and physical chemistry. She has considerable experience in grant writing for several funding institutions, including the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the American Cancer Society
