Michelle S., Ph.D., E.L.S. (Certified Editor in the Life Sciences)
Michelle is a full-time Medical Writer on staff at BioScience Writers. She earned her BS in Biology from Carlow University in 2004 and her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine in 2011. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, in the department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Her research interests include infectious diseases, bacteriology, antibiotic resistance, prokaryotic gene regulation, and secreted virulence factors of pathogenic bacteria. She also has expertise in biodefense, cancer biology, genomics, and bioinformatics. In September 2015, she became certified by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences. She specializes in editing NIH grant applications and research manuscripts.
Michelle has published 11 manuscripts, including three first-author publications, for which she was responsible for drafting, editing, and formatting to meet journal specifications. She has also written and edited manuscripts, book chapters, abstracts, posters, and presentations for herself and others. She has experience writing and editing many types of grant applications, including those for the R01, R21, and F32 funding mechanisms offered through the NIH. She is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and the American Society of Microbiology.
