Rebecca B., Ph.D.
Rebecca earned her M.S. in chemistry from Princeton University, completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science at Oregon State University, and conducted post-doctoral research in the field of pharmaceutical science at the University of Wisconsin Madison. As a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical & Chemical Engineering at Syracuse University, Rebecca built upon her interdisciplinary background to establish an extramurally funded research program focused upon the application of bio-based materials to solve biomedical problems. Specifically, polysaccharides were used to develop targeted delivery systems to deliver conventional drugs and biopharmaceutics for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, cancer, and peripheral vascular disease. During her time at Syracuse University, Rebecca wrote numerous manuscripts, experimental protocols, book chapters, grant proposals, and project reports. She also served as editor-in-chief on a book, reviewing how polymers are applied in the field of drug delivery. Recently, Rebecca transitioned to a drug delivery startup company where she has rapidly progressed from Senior Scientist to Lead Scientist. When not engaged in scientific research, Rebecca is a devoted dog mom to two English Springer Spaniels as well as a competitive marathon runner and Ironman triathlete. She has finished on the podium of four marathons and competed twice in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
