Charlene E., Ph.D.
Charlene received her graduate training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, studying DNA repair and chromosome maintenance. Prior to her dissertation research, she spent several years developing her scientific interests by working at a number of research institutions, including the University of California at Davis and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. During this time, she gained expertise in a variety of fields by working on projects with topics ranging from neurodevelopment to evolutionary biology. Her writing and editing experience include authoring a successfully funded NSF fellowship, contributing to NIH grant submissions, and writing numerous small, specialized grant applications for philanthropic organizations. She has also written and edited original research and scientific review articles. In addition to her work in editing, she continues to pursue her passion for widely communicating science through teaching and outreach opportunities.
