Jaya V., Ph.D.
Jaya received her Ph.D. from Temple University, and then went on to complete a 4-year postdoctoral stint at University of California Dan Diego and New York University. As a scientist, she studied systemic autoimmune disease and inflammation. She was an Arthritis Foundation Fellow, and her research has been published in the Journal of Immunology, Arthritis & Rheumatism, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Nature Reviews Rheumatology. While she enjoyed bench work, she discovered a greater passion for science communication—she first worked as the Assistant Managing Editor in the busiest division of a major international scientific communications company, editing and reviewing manuscripts in immunology, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology, genetics, microbiology, and food science areas. More recently, she acquired expertise in oncology, working as a medical writer for the pharmaceutical industry. In this role, she produced conference abstracts, posters, and primary and secondary manuscripts from clinical trial data. Jaya now works as a freelance medical writer and editor, helping authors convey and refine their ideas.
