Douglas C., Ph.D.
Douglas earned B.A. and M.S. degrees in organic chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington, and received a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Houston. After completing his doctoral research on novel G-protein coupled receptors at Syntex Pharmaceutical Corporation, Doug went on to do two years of postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego, and spent 18 months as a visiting scientist at Wellcome Research Laboratories in London. Doug later joined Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corporation in Paramus, NJ, and eventually became the director of mechanistic studies at Lundbeck Research USA. In his 20-year career in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors, he has conducted and supervised basic research and drug-development projects in multiple therapeutic areas including hypertension, benign prostatic hyperplasia, pain, overactive bladder, anxiety and depressive disorders, and sleep disorders. He has extensive technical expertise in diverse areas, including cell signaling, in vitro electrophysiology, behavioral testing in rodents, mathematical modeling of drug-receptor interactions, hippocampal neurogenesis, medicinal chemistry, and statistics. Throughout his career, Doug has been engaged in the preparation and review of scientific manuscripts and their submission to quality peer-reviewed journals, and has written multiple grant applications directed to the NIH, DOD, and NMSS. Doug is currently devoting a significant portion of his time to scientific/medical writing.
