Susan M., Ph.D.
Susan is a professor of molecular virology and microbiology, and molecular and cellular biology at Baylor College of Medicine. She manages an active research lab studying molecular mechanisms that regulate cellular proliferation and transformation in response to viral infection. Susan has authored successful research proposals funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and American Cancer Society. In addition to numerous book chapters, she has published over 50 original works in the journals Nature, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Journal of Virology, Oncogene, AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, Cancer Reviews, Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, FEMS Microbiology Letters, Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of Biomedical Science, Frontiers in Bioscience, Virology, and Retrovirology. She has spoken at numerous national and international research conferences in Japan, South Korea, Australia, Great Britain, France, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Jamaica and Canada.Susan serves on the editorial board of several journals including Retrovirology, Virology Journal, and Frontiers in Bioscience, and has consulted as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Veterans Administration, Ohio Cancer Research Associates, Israel Science Foundation, Association for International Cancer Research, United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation, Health Research Board of Ireland, McLaughlin Fellowship Fund, German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development, and the Louisiana State Research Grant Program.
In 2001, Susan established BioScience Writers and has cultivated a strong group of editors that serve an international clientele of over 400 individuals, public and private academic institutions, and biotechnology companies. As the CEO of BioScience Writers, Susan also developed a scientific writing workshop designed for science professionals.
Susan holds a Ph.D. degree in microbiology from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University, Ames, IA. Prior to joining Baylor College of Medicine in 1991, she worked for four years as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
