Heather C., Ph.D.
Heather holds a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Her work at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine focused on stem cell research where she studied adult stem cell function and behavior. She dissected the relationship between growth substrates and cells by analyzing whole transcriptome changes in response to a variety of growth substrates. She now holds a postdoctoral position at Texas Biomedical Research Institute where she is bridging her expertise in regenerative medicine with an interest in the genetics that underlie diseases of the bones and joints. Her current interests are in identifying biomarkers that can serve as early warning signs of osteoarthritis. She is also focusing on the development of stem cell research projects that complement the current osteoarthritis research program at Texas Biomed. She has written and edited numerous manuscripts, grant proposals, and several organizational proposals for local funding and sponsorship of a San Antonio Skeletal Research Alliance as well as a postdoc association.
