Laura M., Ph.D.
Laura received her undergraduate B.S. degree in Biology from Youngstown State University and her Ph.D. from the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology Graduate Program at the University of Pittsburgh. Her graduate research focused on mycobacteriophage-host interactions, and during the course of this work, she gained extensive experience in molecular and microbiology. In addition, she developed a novel recombineering-based method to genetically modify lytically replicating phages. Laura conducted her postdoctoral research in the UCLA Department of Medicine, where she directed studies aimed at characterizing bacteriophages infecting Propionibacterium acnes, the organism associated with the pathogenesis of the skin disease acne. She is currently an Assistant Project Scientist at UCLA and has begun studies aimed at determining how cutaneous microorganisms interact with and modulate human immune responses. Laura has a broad range of scientific experience and has been engaged in the preparation and review of scientific manuscripts and their submission to quality peer-reviewed journals. She has also written multiple grant applications that have been successfully funded by the NIH, The Dermatology Foundation, and the American Acne and Rosacea Society.
