Jochen M., Ph.D.
Jochen earned his B.Sc., Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.), and Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University Munich, Germany. His scientific experience includes investigations of neuronal activity modulation with pulsed electromagnetic fields, design and validation of high-throughput in vitro neurotoxicity test systems using primary neuronal cultures, and in vivo functional connectivity studies of the mammalian cortex in health and disease. His in vivo basic research has focused on sensory information processing in the visual cortex of the mouse. He is interested in nervous system function and malfunction in the mammalian cortex, especially in epilepsy and autism. To study brain function, he combines cutting-edge scientific techniques to gain insight into complex biological processes that were previously impossible to observe and measure. He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in leading journals. He is currently studying cortical network activity in a genetic mouse model of absence epilepsy using in vivo two-photon microscopy and electrophysiology methods. Jochen is fluent in both English and German and has experience writing in both languages.
