Michelle S., Ph.D.
Michelle received her Ph.D. from Rice University, where she studied how maternally transmitted fungal microbes influenced the population dynamics of their plant hosts. She also received her M.A. at Rice studying hybridization in wild plant populations in response to altered soil moisture. Her work as an undergraduate, which described the phylogenetic relationships between at-risk butterfly subspecies, was featured on the cover of the journal Biogeography. In all, she is author or co-author of four peer-reviewed publications, has acted as a reviewer for several journals, and has successfully funded her research with institutional and national awards. Given the breadth of her research experience, she is an expert reviewer in ecology, fungal/microbial ecology, evolutionary ecology, molecular ecology, and statistical modeling.
