Breah L., PhD
Breah L. received her B.A. in Biology and Spanish (summa cum laude) from Illinois College and her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her graduate studies, she identified and characterized transcriptional regulatory circuits related to amino acid catabolism and quorum sensing in bacteria. As a postdoctoral fellow, Breah has been exploring basic and applied aspects of bacterial physiology, including ecological cross-feeding interactions, metabolic regulation and evolution, and biofuel production. Additionally, she completed an NRSA-funded postdoctoral fellowship focused on the spatiotemporal organization of photosynthetic organelles in purple nonsulfur bacteria. Breah has co-authored more than 12 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as PNAS, ISME Journal, and mBio. She has experience writing and editing research manuscripts, review articles, and successful grant proposals for funding from the NIH and the NSF.
