Jamie B., PhD
Jamie earned a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Maryland, and an M.S. in genetics from Virginia Tech, where she studied animal breeding and the effects of selection on disease resistance in dairy cattle. She earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Maryland, where she employed animal models of infectious disease and proteomics-based mass spectrometry techniques to characterize the innate host response to infection during inflammatory diseases. Jamie has worked as a Faculty Research Assistant at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, where she investigated genes involved in the control of steroid regulated programmed cell death during development in Drosophila melanogaster. More recently, Jamie served as a Research Biologist at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), where she directed a biomarker research program aimed at the identification of indicators of food animal disease that could be used as regulatory criteria in the evaluation of veterinary drug efficacy. Jamie has served as a peer reviewer for several journals including Molecular and Cellular Proteomics, Journal of Proteome Research, and Journal of Analytical Chemistry, and she has an extensive background in scientific writing and editing.
